Gordon Li is a Chinese/Australian musician, composer and educator based in Naarm/Melbourne. He has established himself as one of Australia’s most exciting and in-demand upcoming bass players across a wide range of genres, projects and collaborative efforts. With a primarily improvisational based practice, Gordon’s musical output reflects an evident fascination with capturing moments of communication, improvisation, connection and introspection. An emphasis on staying hyper present in the moment of performance ensures an ongoing exchange with audience and fellow performers alike. Carving space out to explore themes of ritual, conversation, tension and release.

Gordon’s approach to performance has seen him showcase his talents across a wide range of stages and formats. Notable appearances and career highlights include two international tours to Asia with the Australian International Opera Company, a national tour of Japan including an appearance at Fuji Rock festival, and recent performances at numerous Victorian and Australian festivals including the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Castlemaine Jazz festival, Mullumbimby Festival, Something Unlimited, New Years Eve on the Hill and more.

His latest release ‘A View From The Bungalow’ (set for release in February 2022 via Music Company) offers a slowly unfurling, meditative reflection on a year forced into stand still. Each part of this suite is inspired by finding the fleeting moments of escape and beauty from an unending cloud of uncertainty. From a bungalow in Thornbury, to the rugged coastal expanse of Urquharts Bluff, through to the green sanctuary offered by Darebin Parklands.
